CCMB develops India's first mRNA vaccine technology for Covid-19

The mRNA vaccination technique developed by the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad, is completely indigenous and was created without the help of any outside scientists, making it India’s first in house mRNA vaccine technology to be developed against COVID-19.

In a mouse model, the technology was 90% effective against Covid-19, and once the pandemic is over, it might be employed against other infectious diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and tuberculosis. A uniqueapproach has been used by the CCMB researchers in comparison to the Pune-based pharmaceutical firms mRNA vaccine, which is currently under clinical trials.

The new mRNA vaccine candidate is presently in pre-medical testing, with its efficacy being examinedagainst the novel coronavirus infection. Dr Vinay Nandicoori, the director of the CCMB, revealed that researchers from the CCMBs Atal Incubation Centre completed the vaccine development within a year of the projects start.
